Well its a place where you can go and hear a prepared presentation on the “opportunities” available to you if you join Wakeupnow.

Well it has been more than a year since I last checked my credit score, so I decided to go ahead and get my free report for the year. Last year I was a little unclear on what I was legally entitled to. I imagine that some of the Debt Wrench readers might find this system a little confusing too. With all the scams and companies out there that claim to give you a free report(among other things) there is need for clarification. So let me clarify to the best of my knowledge. I would also encourage you to do some reading on your own to verify all the information shared here.

You are legally entitled to get one free credit report from each of the three national credit bureaus (Experian, Equifax and TransUnion) per year. This is a federal law.

They are legally obligated to give you that information once a year for free.

If you want to know your “credit score” (aka FICO score) you will have to pay extra. I paid around 8 bucks for my score from Equifax.

There is only one site that is authorized to get your three free annual credit reports under federal law. Which is AnnualCreditReport.com. (see FTC website)

You can go to each individual website of the 3 national credit bureaus for your credit reports. In fact Annualcreditreport.com really just redirects you to each website. It is more convenient to get all three reports at Annualcreditreport.com, because you don’t have to fill out the information 3 different times on each of the three credit bureaus’ websites. The website will “autofill” your information as you are redirected to the individual bureau website.

How do I monitor my credit reports for free year round?

Well it is simple only request the report from one of the 3 bureaus at a time. If you space out your requests 4 months apart you’ll have monitored your credit report all year compared to if you only checked all three at once.

This is the cheapest method to monitor your credit report and unfortunately it isn’t the best. But if you are like me you hate paying people to find out what records they are keeping on you then this might be the method for you. Here are a few of the disadvantages I can see to this method.

Not all creditors report to all three bureaus. One report might not fully reflect your entire score/credit history.

Checking your reports only three times year might not catch identity theft among other things in time. However it is far better than once a year or never.

Below is some if I pulled for the Federal Trade Commission.

What is AnnualCreditReport.com?

AnnualCreditReport.com is the ONLY authorized source to get your free annual credit report under federal law. The Fair Credit Reporting Act guarantees you access to a free credit report from each of the three nationwide reporting agencies — Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion — every twelve months. The Federal Trade Commission has received complaints from consumers who thought they were ordering their free annual credit report, but instead paid hidden fees or agreed to unwanted services. Don’t be fooled by TV ads, email offers, or online search results. Go to the authorized source when you request your free report.

How do I request my free credit report?

You can request your free report online, by phone or by mail. Visit AnnualCreditReport.com, call 1-877-322-8228, or fill out the Annual Credit Report Request form and mail it to Annual Credit Report Request Service, P.O. Box 105281, Atlanta, GA 30348-5281. No matter how you request your report, you have the option to request all three reports at once or to order one report at a time. By requesting the reports separately, you can monitor your credit more frequently throughout the year.

Why should I request my credit report?

Because the information in your credit report is used to evaluate your applications for credit, insurance, employment, and renting a home, you should be sure the information is accurate and up-to-date. In addition, monitoring your credit is one of the best ways to spot identity theft. Check your credit report at least once a year to correct errors and detect unauthorized activity.

What should I look for when I review my credit report?

If you see accounts you don’t recognize or information that is inaccurate, contact the credit reporting agency and the information provider. For more information, read the FTC’s tips on how to dispute credit errors.

If you suspect identity theft, you may need to place a fraud alert on your credit report, close compromised accounts, file a complaint with the FTC, or file a police report. Start by visiting the FTC’s identity theft website.

FTC Seeks Comments on Proposals to
Amend ‘Free Credit Report’ Rule<
The Federal Trade Commission is seeking public comment on proposed amendments to the Free Annual File Disclosures Rule, also known as the “Free Credit Report Rule.” The proposed amendments would implement a new law designed to prevent consumer confusion in advertisements for “free credit reports.” The amendments also would address certain practices that may interfere with a consumers’ ability to obtain the credit report that credit reporting agencies must provide for free under federal law. Learn more…

File a Complaint

The FTC wants to hear from you if you paid for what you thought was your free annual credit report.

SPAM

The FTC also wants you to forward us any unsolicited emails you’ve received offering you a free credit report. Send them to spam@uce.gov.

AnnualCreditReport.com will NEVER send you an email solicitation for your free annual credit report or use pop up ads.

It is so crazy to think about the fact that almost 47% of households in the US currently have zero or negative federal tax liability. I found this great graphic on Mint.com’s blog that shows the tax liability for American’s according to their income level. We can take a closer look at the lack of liability across each income level. Note the percentage in each range that will not pay any taxes. The numbers are quite startling. Also shown in this nice visual ad is a full breakdown of who is paying the bulk of all taxes collected by the Federal Government each year.

As you work toward your financial freedom it is important to beware of and plan to reduce your tax liability. You should always try to minimize the amount of money you give to the Federal government, always do so with the constraints of the IRS tax codes and within the law. One of the best legal ways to reduce your tax liability is to start a small business. The tax deduction are very limited as an individual, however as a business entity your number of possible deduction greatly increases. The money that you would have paid to the government can be use to pay off you debt completely. Once your debt is gone the saving can then be applied to your investments. This is just one of the many things that is taught in greater detain at the Intelligence Ways Academy. Wakeupnow’s membership offers all the tools and guidance you need to start your own business (i.e. free access accountants, a business plan, step-by-step information, and support from others).
The charity work that Wakeupnow is doing through Unityone is just starting to kick off. Wakeupnow is a very young company and it is awesome to see that the focus of helping others is an actual guiding principle as the company starts to grow.

UnityOne Foundation, the charitable arm of WakeUpNow, is now working with Invisible Children, a non-profit organization. Invisible Children Charity works to build schools and supply books for the orphaned children in Northern Uganda.

Founded by three college students from California, Invisible Children’s mission is to bring awareness to the plight of the children of Northern Uganda caught in the middle of a civil war. The war is between the government of Uganda and the rebel group, (Lords Resistant Army; aka LRA). This horrific rebel group kidnaps children and forces them into becoming child soldiers.

The LRA has ruined the schools and villages in Uganda in their efforts to give the children the feeling of hopelessness. This is done to ruin the hopes, dreams and opportunities for young Ugandan children in an effort to force them to join the LRA’s cause. Invisible Children is now raising books to send out to Uganda. If you would like to find more information about them please visit Invisible Children’s website.

Megan Lee, a Junior at Timpview High School in Provo, Utah, has already gathered over 2,000 school books for Invisible Children! Her goal is to raise a total of 5,000 books by December 25th 2009.

Megan has brought her goal to the UnityOne Foundation. Impressed by her efforts, Unityone has agreed to help Megan with her crusade. They are asking everyone involved with WakeUpNow and anyone else to donate three school books, preferably Jr. High, High School, or College Level books. The donated books you choose have to be either the Scholastic Books symbol, or a barcode to ensure proper distribution.

If you would like to join the cause simply bring your books to your local Wakeupnow opportunity meeting, or to our main office at 3507 North University Avenue, Suite 200, in Provo, Utah.

You can find the locations, times, and addresses of the Wakeupnow opportunity meetings here.

One of the reasons that I believe Wakeupnow will be successful in helping others is because it is founded in solid principles. One of those principles is people come first and people are what is important. You can spend a lot of time creating a business that has all the systems and components to succeed but if you overlooks the importance of the people that run the system, ultimately you will fail. After all it is the people involved with the company that make it successful. If the personnel are not happy and achieving fullfillment them the company loses out on their innovation, motivation, and loyalty that comes when they are what matters most.

Its very important to distinguish yourself from the competition. Why would someone invest time and money into one business opportunity over another if it wasn’t different or better? I have heard a lot of people try to sell me on how their business model or business plan is truly different. I know that every company, mlm, network marketing, or business will try to sell you on what is so unique and different about themselves. Some off it might be true but it seems that a large portion of it is only skin deep. Wakeupnow’s involvement with Unityone Charity shows you where their true colors are.

When an opportunity comes along that feels different you should take note. I am not going to say that this totally different and it will revolutionize everything. I not going to say that it won’t either, but this business plan seem different. The difference is how they view the world around them. They see the opportunity to help other while at the same time improving your own. Here is a great little video on why Untiy One Charity was formed and what is its purpose is and what the realationship is to Wakeupnow.

UnityOne is the charitable entity of Wakeupnow. UnityOne owns forty-nine percent ownership of Wakeupnow. This was done to insure that one of the three governing principals of wakeupnow (“Look to the world around you and then make it a better place“) would be fulfilled. This very founding principal created the need for a charitable organization to realize Wakeupnow’s nobel vision. The UnityOne name was intended to convey Wakeupnow representative’s beliefs that all aspects of our lives are connected and the best way to find true happiness is to strengthen those connections within our own lives and within the lives of others.

UnityOne’s mission is to seek out opportunities to positively enhance the experience of life, by addressing the physical demands of living and provide individuals an ever increasing opportunity to help others from an enlightened view point.

Those involved with UnityOne have identified certain mission parameters that will serve as a guide. One of these is our dedication to the wise use of charitable resources. UnityOne Charity is committed to expend a minimum of ninety percent of all charitable funds to directly benefit those targeted within the cause by keeping administration costs at a bare minimum.

Currently UnityOne has identified a few programs that it will devote time and resources into. The list will continue to grown in depth and scope.

Building homes for families in need through sponsorship with Habitat for Humanity

Support Wakeupnow’s vision of debt elimination through application of assistance where needed

The foundation of social service groups that can join together with those in need, both within their own ranks and within their own environmental boundaries

“It is our hope to inspire our membership to join us, in body and in vision in the cause of freedom and make this a better Place!”
